“There’s a legend around here. A killer buried, but not dead. A curse on Crystal Lake, a death curse. Jason Voorhees’ curse. They say he died as a boy, but he keeps coming back. Few have seen him and lived. Some have even tried to stop him. NO ONE can.” ~ Friday the 13th Part VII
The developers of the Friday the 13th game have been busy. After revealing recently that Tommy Jarvis will be a playable character (voiced by Thom Matthews), IllFonic and Gun Media are moving forward with a public PC beta. The folks over at IGN got their hands on that beta this week and released 17 minutes of counselor gameplay. Check it out in the video below!
Holy cow, there’s lots of cool stuff going on in there! You have one player playing Jason and 7 other players playing counselors. From the 10:40 mark to the 12:15 mark you get an idea of what the combat system is like. Jason looks like one bad hombre! And he should… Kane Hodder is providing motion capture footage for the game!
Here is one of the awesome HorrorGeekLife gameplays down below, make sure to subscribe to them as they put out more fun sneak peeks into the game. This is the “Outhouse Death” and proves that no one is safe anywhere and Jason will find you!!! How epic was that kill?
Other stuff I noticed in the counselor gameplay video:
- Cheese 80’s music from the radios (to go along with a legit Friday the 13th score from Harry Manfredini)!
- Weapons include a machete, ax, baseball bat, flare gun, and a pocket knife.
- You can hide under the bed and hold your breath! Something tells me that won’t help.
- One counselor dies with a sickening crunch to buy time for the others to escape in the car at the end.
- Jason’s Mommy tells him to come home!
Overall, the Friday the 13th game is looking great and is on track for a Summer 2017 release.
More good news for Friday the 13th fans: the beta sign up deadline has been extended! You can get access by pre-ordering the game before December 24th, 2016 according to the project updates page. The sign-up period was originally slated to close on December 22nd. For awesome giveaways for the game, you should also check out HorrorGeekLife facebook page. Merry Christmas, Friday the 13th fans! Here’s the link to pre-order.
Maybe I’m biased, but this Friday the 13th game looks like it’s shaping up to be ever so slightly cooler the original NES version. Don’t you agree?
