“Every serial killer lives next door to someone.” That’s the tagline for Summer of ’84, the latest project from RKSS, the creative team behind Turbo Kid. Variety broke the news that Rich Sommer (Mad Men) and Tiera Skovbye (Riverdale) will star in this retro horror thriller written by Matt Leslie & Stephen J. Smith. Filming began last month (July) in Vancouver and the Production is targeting a late 2017 release.
The Synopsis From The Official Facebook Page:
It’s the summer of 1984, the perfect time to be 14 years old and free. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous.
Brightlight Pictures (White Noise) and Gunpowder & Sky (Hounds of Love) are Producing.
Brightlight announced the project in a Press Release back in May. Van Toffler, CEO, and co-founder of Gunpowder & Sky describes Summer of ’84…
“How could we not bet on a writer associated with Straight Outta Compton and the directors of Turbo Kid to tell a twisted tale about a peaceful community where a serial killer threatens to shatter the suburban dream? It’s a bold, unexpected story told by breakthrough filmmakers, and it’s exactly the kind of novel film we want to make at Gunpowder & Sky.”
François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell, the Directors, collectively known, as RKSS, were also quoted in the press release:
“We were passionate about Summer Of ’84 since the very first pitch. Our team fell in love with the script and felt like it was written just for us. There was no doubt in our mind that we needed to get attached to this amazing project and work with the talented writers who imagined it all.”
They’re excited. The Producers are excited. As someone who grew up in the 1980’s and is a big fan of 1980’s horror, *I* couldn’t be MORE excited!
How could you NOT be excited for this Stranger Things inspired shocker???
