The American gothic soap opera Dark Shadows can now be viewed on Amazon Prime. Every episode can be streamed on both the US and UK platforms. The show originally debuted on ABC on June 27, 1966 and then ended on April 2, 1971. The five-year span of Dark Shadows had 1,225 episodes.
The rich Collins family of Collinsport, Maine is tormented by strange occurrences.
Dark Shadows was created by Dan Curtis. The series features an array of supernatural creatures such as ghosts, werewolves, vampires, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, and warlocks. There were also story arcs involving time travel and a parallel universe. The cast includes Joan Bennett, Grayson Hall, Jonathan Frid, Nancy Barrett, Alexandra Moltke, Louis Edmonds, Kathryn Leigh Scott, David Selby, David Henesy, Lara Parker, and Thayer David. When Jonathan Frid’s Barnabas Collins appeared on the show, it became immensely popular.
According to The Collinsport Historical Society,
“All 1,225 episodes of DARK SHADOWS are now available streaming on Prime. This number includes all 26 DVD collections, as well as the six volumes that make up DARK SHADOWS: THE BEGINNING, the so-called “Pre-Barnabas years.”
The show has an immense cult following, and in both 2004 and 2007, TV Guide ranked the show #19 and #23 on their list of Top Cult Shows Ever. It also had a film adaptation from Warner Brothers, which was directed by the most gothic director ever, Tim Burton. The film stars Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, while the rest of the cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Bella Heathcote.
Dark Shadows also continued as a range of audio dramas from Big Finish Productions that includes many of the original cast, including David Selby, Lara Parker, and Kathryn Leigh Scott.
