I remember watching Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest at home with my parents, and that was the first time I had experienced a cliffhanger. There I was just seven-years-old, watching my first celebrity crush, Johnny Depp, get eaten by a kraken. My exact words were, “What!?! That’s it that’s how they’re leaving it?” I wasn’t too happy about it at the time. However, it is now my favorite Pirates film out of the franchise.
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) seeks the heart of mythical pirate Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) in order to avoid being enslaved to him. However, others, including his friends, Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), want it for their own gain.

1) The scene when Jack Sparrow calls Davy Jones “fish face” and sings to them, “I got a jar of dirt!” was unscripted and improvised by Johnny Depp. Most of the reactions from the rest of the actors are real.
2) The Kraken was difficult to animate as it had no real-life reference until animation director Hal T. Hickel instructed the crew to watch King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963), which had a real octopus crawling over miniatures.
3) Tom Hiddleston was sent the script for the first film. He ended up going into the audition but didn’t get the part. I personally would have lost my mind! Tom Hiddleston as Will Turner and Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow would have blown my mind.
4) Johnny Depp’s frequent collaborator, Tim Burton, contributed some of the conceptual designs of several crew members aboard the Flying Dutchman.
5) When Will is looking for Captain Jack Sparrow, the last guy he asks tells him about an island where the long pork is very good. “Long pork” is a euphemism for human meat.
6) The texture of Davy Jones’ skin was made by scanning a dirty coffee cup and applying it to the screen using Photoshop-type software.
7) Director Gore Verbinski originally wanted Davy Jones to be Dutch, as he is the Captain of the Dutchman. Bill Nighy responded, “I don’t do Dutch. So I decided on Scottish.”
8) While the script was being written, Keira Knightley suggested the scene between Jack and Elizabeth where Jack is handcuffed to the ship.
9) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is banned in China for its depiction of cannibalism, an integral part to the movie’s storyline.
10) When the word “tortuga” is set on fire on the deck, it is written in the trademark Disney font.
