‘Scratch’ (2018) Short Film Review – Karma At Its Finest!

As I’ve mentioned before, I am a judge for the 2018 Women in Horror Film Festival. It is such an incredible honor. Last year’s festival was a huge success, bringing light to amazing shorts and features. One that is receiving a plethora of love is called Scratch and it’s officially available to watch online!

This horror short is the directorial debut of actress Emma Bell (Walking Dead, A Quiet Passion) and written by Helen Shang (Distance, ‘NBC’s Hannibal. Bel Deliá (The Tunnel, The House: Hulu’s Halloween Anthology) stars along with Camron Robertson, and Kate Avery.

Official Synopsis for Scratch:

When a repressed 1950s housewife is left alone by her philandering husband, she makes a horrifying discovery about the noises in the house that are coming from the walls.

Scratch has a truly sinister atmosphere from beginning to end. Even before anything bad happened, you could feel that something wicked would soon be on its way. And it was. The whole look of the film meshed with the tone and delivered a well-crafted horror story.

Bel Deliá’s was outstanding in her role as Lily. She delivers a heartbreakingly beautiful performance that makes you sympathize with her pain and emptiness. Her life is a wreck and it’s only about to get worse… or is it?

The twist towards the end was the best part. Karma at its finest. What comes around goes around and this time it works its magic on two unlucky assholes. A bittersweet revenge. *Scratch, Scratch…*

Final Thoughts on Scratch:

I highly recommend giving this one a watch. It has a run time of fewer than 15 minutes, yet it delivers a sinister story that will send goosebumps down your spine. Above all, Scratch is a well-crafted horror story with top-notch acting and is delightfully twisted. Watch it for yourself, down below!
