Sparking interest in the independent horror scene is a newly released trailer for a found footage film titled The Follower. While found footage films can be hit and miss among many horror fans, the subgenre has offered up some pleasant gems such as V/H/S (2012) and Hell House LLC (2015). Featuring a new social media take on found footage, The Follower offers a fresh perspective along with some frightening potential.
When Youtuber David Baker (Nicolas Shake) is invited by Carol (Chloe Dumas) to investigate her home following strange occurrences, things take an unexpected turn. Under the assumption that Carol has lost touch with reality in her lonely life, David begins filming. However, as events begin to unravel, it becomes clear the Youtuber is about to find more than what meets the eye.
Written and directed by French filmmaker Kevin Mendiboure (The Shoes 2016) and co-writer Vincent Darkman, The Follower was written, directed and edited in four and a half months with a mere 12 days of shooting. Despite its quick production, The Follower has already earned three award nominations at the FANtastic Horror Film Festival in San Diego, California. With anticipation growing, this found footage feature is expected to be released sometime this year.
