Check Out the First Trailer for ‘The New Mutants,’ A Superhero Horror Film

I grew up reading comics and I always loved the X-Men. The X-Men film franchise has been very hit-and-miss with me over the years (more miss than hit). The recent X-Men related films have been better, though. Logan and Deadpool upped my confidence in Fox’s ability to create entertaining and moving superhero films. Next up from Fox? The New Mutants!

I’ve been following the news of The New Mutants film since it was first announced. I remained cautiously optimistic when they stated it was going to be a horror film. After seeing the trailer, I’m so ready to see this movie. Check out the trailer and read on for the plot and cast/character details.

The New Mutants is the latest film from director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars). Boone wrote the script with Knate Lee (Kidnap). The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik (who wields magic and can teleport), Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane (Lycanthropy), Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball (Flight, during which he is invulnerable), Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot (Superhuman strength, Flight. Solar absorption and rechanneling, Heat and light projection, and Concussive blasts). Then there is Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage (who has the power to create illusions drawn from the fears and desires of a person’s mind) and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes (a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself).

The New Mutants

The New Mutants Synopsis

Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves

The trailer has a character-based Dream Warriors vibe to it. April can’t get here quick enough!

I’m excited for The New Mutants! Are you? Let us know in the comments.

About Charlie Cargile

I’m a soon to be published author and aspiring screenwriter from middle of nowhere Illinois. Some of my favorite films are Return of the Living Dead, Gravy, Evil Dead, May, and Cemetery Man. I have a deep love for indie horror.
