Top 5 Reasons to Watch ‘Night of Something Strange’

Recently, I saw the trailer on Facebook for the indie horror film Night of Something Strange. It looked absolutely fucking bonkers and I needed to see it as soon as possible! Luckily, I only had two days to wait until it was released on VOD, so my anticipation wasn’t stretched out too long. The film itself looked to be great, but I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to stomach it. I literally gagged at one part in particular and that hasn’t happened to me since Cabin Fever 2. I was very close to not finishing it, but so happy that I stuck it out. Now that I’ve finished Night of Something Strange, I love it! Let’s look at 5 reasons why I feel every single horror fan should give this a chance.

1) Test Your Limits

As advertised, this film will definitely test the strength of your stomach. It is typical to hear advertisements for horror movies that state that every film is the “most shocking film” of the year. Night of Something Strange would make that quote look like an understatement and does it in the best way possible. The premise, a zombie STD, should give you an idea of what you are getting yourself in to. There are also plenty of teenage shenanigans that are sure to have you yelling, “What in the actual fuck?”

2) The Humor

Probably the only thing that could keep you from turning off this feature film is the humor. The chemistry between the cast is so natural, that you can picture them as friends in real life. Of course, there are a couple of them that are complete, obnoxious idiots, but they definitely get their dues by the end. This movie will have you laughing for days on end and quoting lines like, “It’s okay. I like it when you’re stinky,” for days on end.

3) The Plot

Typically, a movie starts out as a concept that has been expanded upon to create a feature length film. Usually, a few opportunities get missed because of one thing or another. The zombie STD concept did not fall victim to this filming cliché. Every single aspect, even the ones you wish weren’t, are explored. I don’t want to spoil anything, but this film takes cunnilingus to a whole new level. There are plenty of over-the-top moments and a twist on the zombie genre that we are not used to seeing.

4) The Gore

Night of Something Strange is a complete and utter gorefest. I wonder how much fake book they went through? Blood isn’t the only bodily fluid that is spilling in this movie. You will see just about everything and they don’t just give a quick shot of it. This is full on, balls to the wall, in your face gore and grossness. Night of Something Strange basically plays chicken with the audience. Who is going to give first? Will it be the audience or will the movie end and lose the battle?

5) The End Credits

It seems like an odd thing to put in a top five reasons to watch post, but it belongs here. I don’t mean it in the “the best part of the movie is when it’s over” way, either. I specifically mean the credits at the end. Of course, with it being a horror comedy, there are bloopers, but that is far from the most entertaining portion. The director, Jonathan Straiton, has probably the best Thank You credits in the history of film. It only solidified my belief that the cast not only enjoyed making the movie but enjoyed each other as well. They seem amazing and, due to this, I am down for watching anything that Jonathan Straiton has or will produce!

Night of Something Strange is available on VOD platforms as well as Blu-ray, and it is a must own for your horror collection. As soon as my paycheck hits my account, I am going to be purchasing it. This is another great example of why we need indie horror and how it contributes to the culture of horror films and fans. Have you seen Night of Something Strange? What did you think? If you haven’t seen it, do you think you are able to make it through this game of horror chicken?
